Hello, you appear to have found the personal homepage of Geoffrey Lee. Many years ago, when I was still on a 56K modem with a dynamic IP address, I dreamt of having my own domain name with my own stuff on it, hosted on my own server with a static IP address.
Then I grew up. And promptly did nothing.
Fast forward 15 years. I actually now have a static IP that I've always wanted on my DSL Internet connection that would actually allow me to host all of this myself from my home, ironically after dreaming for so long I'm not actually doing anything with it.
However, Google now makes it pretty easy to have your own domain and host your stuff on their site, so that's what I am doing. All for the princely sum of zero dollars. (Admittedly I did have to cough up 10 bucks for the domain.) 10 or 15 years ago, there'd probably be a cheesy animated gif banner ad at the bottom, but apparently in 2010 it's cool to have just a link to let you report abuse and a "Powered by Google Sites" plug.
Since 2021 they seem to have redesigned the Sites web application, which does look better, but when I migrated the domain shortcut stopped working. Little things like these do make me wonder if we are always moving things forward and improving all the time.
I am fascinated by the fact that you can fit the computer power from a powerful beige workstation 10-15 years ago into a mobile phone or an embedded system comprising of what is essentially made up of the components of a mobile phone. My eventual aim is to host the contents of this humble page using one of these devices using the static IP available to me now, however my schedule is not quite wide enough to contain the work. Please check back in 10-15 years. (If you are interested in high-end embedded devices, have a look at PandaBoard, BeagleBoard or Marvell's SheevaPlug. The Raspberry Pi also seems pretty awesome too considering the price.)
I am working as a software consultant these days, for all your IT needs please contact me, rates are very reasonable. References available. My username is glee at this domain.
I maintain a blog so that this site can be kept relatively static. Actually, the blog is pretty static too, but I would like to assure you that this is not by design.
